History

The church was built in 1926-7 and paid for by Councillor Frank Finn KCSG, Lord Mayor of Hull, as a memorial to his brother Father William Finn, killed as a chaplain in World War I in heroic circumstances. Side aisles were added in 1955 and the sanctuary was altered. The original architect was Thomas Rodgers of Darlington, with alterations by John Houghton.
